Fabrics
Many
queries are received by us, regarding our fabrics. If we have not
covered a query you may have after reading this section please feel
free to contact
us.
What
sort of fabric do you carry?
The vast
majority of our fabric on the roll is Kimono fabric in the
traditional width of 36
centimetres or 14 inches.
Many rolls
are undone garments and are therefore cut into pieces and some can
contain stains/marks or small imperfections that need to be worked
around. This is the nature of vintage textiles that have seen some
proper use. Saying all that, we have some extraordinary stock that
you will not see elsewhere.
Most of the
rolls are silk but we also carry cottons (including indigo dyed),
wool and a small amount of synthetics. Prices range from $10AUD to
$35AUD for a metre, dependant on technique used, design, vintage
and fabric composition.
Most of our
stock is $15 per metre.
How much
can I get of one particular fabric?
The
absolute maximum fabric on an untouched roll is approximately 12
metres. These rolls are rare. As we sell by the metre most rolls
contain less and is dependant on what has been purchased by
previous customers.
What is
the smallest ammount I can buy?
The minimum
cut is 50 centimetres.
Sorry, due
to the limited amount of fabric on each roll we do not usually
supply samples.
How do I
wash vintage silk?
Contrary to
belief silk is not difficult or scary to maintain.
Wash in
cool to cold water with a splash of wool wash or pure soap flakes.
Submerge fabric and give a gentle swish around leaving in the water
for no more than 4-5 minutes. Support when removing from the water
– do not wring but gently squeeze before rinsing once again in cool
water. Wet items can be rolled in a towel to remove excess water
before being hung or laid out flat in shade. Iron when still damp
with a dry iron if required (silk loves steam).
Do you
have an online catalogue for fabrics and garments?
Sorry! This
is not possible to produce and keep updated. All items carried by
Ziguzagu are one of a kind. This includes garments, fabrics on the
roll, zabuton and all haberdashery. Stock can change drastically
from shipment to shipment and many special pieces go before a photo
can even be taken!
If you are
after something very specific, please contact us. We are very familiar
with all stock and can let you know what we do or do not have on
hand.
Do you
make Kimono?
Unfortunately no, each garment takes a whole
roll of fabric, much time and effort. Traditionally these garments
are hand sewn together. Even in Japan this is a hard request to
find someone to complete with most 'modern' garments being machine
sewn together.
How can
I pay?
In the
warehouse we accept cash, all major credit cards except Diners
Club. Please note AMEX attracts a surcharge, EFTPOS, or
cheque.
Can I
order via the website?
Yes you
can! Please contact staff via e-mail or phone with your
requirements and we will be more than happy to organize your
purchases. Fabrics can be scanned or
photographed and images e-mailed to you upon request.
Can I
pay via the website?
Sorry! we
do not yet have an automated online payment system but all usual
payment options are available. Due to security concerns, we will
discuss with each customer individually.
Do you
mail items to customers?
Purchased
items can by mailed anywhere in the world – through Australia Post
or a courier if requested. Postage costs are additional to any
purchase and will be determined prior to the completion of the
transaction.
